As early as 5.30am the CHIRRA elders were already stationed at Seke 6 High School in eager keenness for the first ever JM BUSHA 54 RACES Athletics Club Cross Country Time Trial. The sky was overcast and rain was threatening but the weather was not a deterrent, instead, the excitement and expectation took over. The first race started in earnest at 6.30am. This was a Cadet Race with participants aged 7-14 years (1 lap around 1.3 km cross country trail). The little ones put up a spirited performance to the joy of the sizeable crowd. The CHIRRA elders were the race officials and “Coach Star” was recording race times. Race events went on flawlessly with the elders staying put even when it began to rain. Meanwhile all Coaches cum Board Members for the club graced the event, adding to the joy - Tabitha Tsatsa (she brought with her 3 seasoned athletes to participate and she participated too.), Abel Chimukoko (promised to participate in the next cross country time trial on December 15), Collen Makaza (brought several participants from Mr Pace Club, his children and he also participated) and Sitariko Jack was timekeeper. Yesteryear great Filima Rabia also participated. A teacher from Seke Rural School –Murape Secondary School (Mr Muronzi brought 6 junior participants -3 boys and 3 girls. The next race was for juniors men and women combined (3 laps around the 1.3km cross country laps), followed by Senior Women (6 laps around the 1.3km cross country trail) and finally Senior Men (6laps around the 1.3km cross country trail)After the Cross Country Trial, participants and all gathered received some encouraging pep talks from yesteryear greats- Abel Chimukoko, Tabitha Tsatsa and Collen Makaza. Special applause went to CHIRRA elders for their commitment and support towards the club always and unwaveringly. It was a beautiful day and start to the Cross Country Trial Runs and there is already an expectant air for the next one on December 15 2018. See you there!
