JM BUSHA 54 HARARE CYCLING HOUR
12 MARCH 2020
The Harare’s Central Business District came to a standstill on the 7th of March 2020 when JM BUSHA 54 RACES partnering with the City of Harare office, hosted its inaugural HARARE CYCLING HOUR. The partnership received assistance from the German Embassy who also graced the event and participated amongst other 140 cyclists. The event also saw the founder of JM BUSHA 54 RACES, Mr. Joseph Makamba Busha battle it out with The Mayor of Harare His worship Councillor Gomba on the course.
The world bicycle industry is projected to be worth USD75billion by 2025. This is because a bicycle can be used as a principal means of transport, provides a form of recreation, has been adapted as children's toys, can be used for fitness, courier services as well as different types of bicycle racing. In a nut shell, bicycles are the future of any progressive world class city.
It is against this background that JM BUSHA 54 RACES in Partnership with The City of HARARE launched Harare Cycling Hour. JM BUSHA uses sport as a tool to promote peace and unity across communities and the world. As an organisation we ensure that our activities do not just bring people together but that they also contribute to economic participation of various partners feeding into the overall economic and social development of communities, towns, countries and the world.
The City of Harare aspires for Harare to be a world class City by 2025 and JM BUSHA 54 RACES assisted them with bringing people together through cycling so as to promote the various benefits generated from the sport. The event was held under the theme; Creating a cycling culture: safe cycling spaces and a greener Sunshine City.
We see this as the beginning of a new era which will;
1. Raise awareness on the health benefits of cycling
2. Raise awareness on the contribution of cycling to reduced carbon footprint on our planet
3. Raise awareness on the importance of resuscitating the cycling infrastructure and creation of safe cycling spaces within the City
4. Create opportunities for resuscitating the bicycle manufacturing industry which has massive growth opportunities.
JM BUSHA 54 RACES continues to feed into the sustainable developmental goals in helping transform the world. This event saw the organisation contributing towards some of the following SDGs;
